Auditions are open to boys and girls ages 7-17 (2nd-12th grade).

The Winter 2021 RVCC auditions will be held outside at Bethel Baptist Church, immediately following the FREE “Ready, Set, Sing Class”! Each audition lasts about 5 minutes. In order to stay safe with COVID-19, there will be built-in precautions at the auditions.

Times:

  • December 4th, 2021, 12:00-1:00 PM

Place:

2nd - 8th graders: Singers should come prepared to sing the first verse of “My Country Tis of Thee”. Find more at “Preparing For Your Audition”. The director, Ms. Davidson, will help you get ready for the audition in the “Ready, Set, Sing!” Video Class (2nd-8th graders), and there is also an in-person “Ready, Set, Sing!” Class (2nd-5th graders) directly before auditions.

COVID-19

The RVCC has adapted and will continue to adapt to the ever-changing situation with the COVID-19 pandemic. In the Spring and Fall of 2020, the RVCC adapted by having virtual and outdoor rehearsals, and creating virtual concerts on Youtube. We are very proud of our singers keeping the music alive in their hearts, sharing their beautiful singing, and being a shining light of hope and inspiration for the whole world to see.

Fall 2021 - Spring 2022 Choir Year Plans

Our weekly rehearsals for the younger training choirs (2nd-8th grade) are on Mondays afterschool at the American Legion Pavilion. We will continue to rehearse outdoors at the American Legion Pavilion in Salem, VA this semester. The RVCC’s 35th Annual Holiday Concert will be help at the Salem Football Stadium on Sunday, November 21st! The Fall Retreat will be a one-day fun event held at the American Legion for all choristers in the Fall.

We hope that by the start of 2022 we can be rehearsing back indoors at our RVCC rehearsal home, Bethel Baptist Church. Our 2022 Spring Concert is planned to be at the Jefferson Center in April or May 2022. We are also planning the ABB+ trip to Williamsburg Choral Festival for Spring 2022, as well as a C Choir Summer Trip for Summer 2022. We will continue to consult our medical advisory team in all our upcoming choir plans. We are excited to transition more and more back to “normal”. Safety is still always our number priority!

What is the audition like?

Auditions are fast and friendly! For the audition, Ms. Davidson will also check your vocal range and your musical listening skills. The audition takes about 5 minutes or less. Parents and friends are welcome to cheer you on! We look forward to meeting you!

A Little Bit About the RVCC:

The Roanoke Valley Children's Choir was founded by Director, Kim Davidson, in 1987. Open to children ages 7-18, the RVCC includes four choirs, each focusing on a specific level of development and musicianship. 

The Roanoke Valley Children’s Choir provides an enriching supplement to school music classes. We offer an in-depth study of the voice in a specialized choral setting, while providing performance experiences in a variety of situations.

Each rehearsal includes vocal warm-ups and training to ensure a proper start for the young voice. Diction, stage presence and breathing techniques are taught in order to provide a well-rounded, high quality choral experience. All children are given the opportunity to sing both melody and harmony parts to help encourage the young voice to develop its entire vocal range.

The Children’s Choir is committed to providing a musical experience designed to allow children personal as well as musical growth. Through expanding knowledge, self-discipline, and self-expression, the child acquires a great sense of his/her own worth.

Auditions are held in the Spring/Summer of each year and are open for all children ages 7-17. Most of our singers begin in the choir starting in 2nd-6th grade (7-12 years old). It is really best to join the RVCC at this younger age so you are able to start out in one of our three training choirs where you will learn all of the basics to create a solid foundation for beautiful singing. But any age, 7-17, is welcome to audition!
