The RVCC Concert Choir sang at the 2024 Miss Virginia Pageant!

The RVCC Concert Choir had the privilege of opening the final evening of the Miss Virginia Pageant on June 29 at the Berglund Center.  The Concert Choir sang the National Anthem with Tiffany Haas who was Glinda in “Wicked” on Broadway for 11 years.  We were thrilled to sing with the beautiful and talented Ms. Haas and enjoyed the “behind the scenes” peak at the big production.

It was an amazing experience with the RVCC Concert Choir at the "Virginia Choir Festival"!

The Concert Choir just returned from the Virginia Choral Festival where we combined our voices with the Shenandoah Valley Children’s Choir and the Virginia Children’s Choir for a workshop day with Dr. John Irving, choral director at Christopher Newport University, and we also sang in the beautiful Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Norfolk for a concert to benefit the Norfolk Street Choir Project.  (A choir for homeless people and they also helps with other needs)

Our singers, chaperones, and trip leader (Michelle Sublett) were all STELLAR!!  I couldn’t be more proud!

It’s hard to say which is more beautiful in the RVCC; the singing or the teamwork!  I guess they go hand in hand.  Everyone was so kind and helpful in all the everyday matters of traveling together for four days.  Our singers were SO attentive and smart in how they took new instruction from other directors.  The singing was so beautiful.

And no choir trip is complete without a story to tell!  While we were all singing a beautiful concert in the Basilica, the bus had a malfunction and all of the air came out of the bus system causing the bus to go to its lowest position, which blocked the door from opening because the door was now against the curb.  Our bus driver was calling other bus companies, towing places, even the police to see if they could jack it up and nothing was working out for help.  I asked the bus driver if we could try to tip the bus up to get the door high enough to open so she could get in the bus.  There was a learning curve, and there was a lot of enthusiasm!  The RVCC couldn’t quite get it alone and called on the help of the SVCC and it worked!  We tipped a bus!!!!  It was probably one of the most exciting moments and also one of the biggest examples of team work!!  Hurray for our teamwork!!

The RVCC B and B+ Choirs sang with the Roanoke Youth Symphony Orchestra at the "Discovery Concert" for 1000 local students

The B and B+ Choirs sang beautifully at the Discovery Concerts with the Roanoke Symphony Youth Orchestra. I'm so proud of our young singers learning all sorts of new things! Singing with a symphony, lining up in a dark hallway, practicing trouble spots with Ms. D 7 times, over and over to make sure they've fixed their mistake, waiting in the dressing rooms with their choir mates, and changing gears to a professional choir member with just hearing one clap from Ms. D.

This is an exceptionally smart and well mannered group!! And the parent helpers are the best!

It's another great day in the RVCC!

The RVCC loved singing for residents at nursing homes for Kindness Day!

Today was Kindness Day for the RVCC! We had a Sing-A-Long of old timey songs, and it was beautiful to see residents and choristers singing together. Our choristers made encouraging cards for the residents, and it was so dear to see them handing them out and chatting with the elderly.

The activity directors said that this was their favorite activity EVER! Engaging the residents in singing was a boost to their spirit, and ours too.

We are so proud of the RVCC and their hard work to spread kindness in our community!
