  • How often does the RVCC rehearse?

Rehearsals are on Mondays from September through April at Bethel Baptist Church in Salem, Va.

  • A/B Choir - Mondays from 4:00-5:30 PM

  • B+ Choir - Mondays from 5:00-6:30 PM

  • C Choir - Mondays from 7:00-9:00 PM

  • A/B Choir - Mondays 4:00-4:45 at the American Legion

  • B+ Choir - Mondays 5:00-6:00 at the American Legion

  • C Choir - Monday 7:00-9:00 at Bethel Baptist Church

  • What is the cost of tuition?

TUITION COSTS FOR THE 2020-2021 YEAR ARE:    

Tuition payments are made through the Active network system. The yearly tuition is broken down into smaller monthly payments. These prices are for the full year costs which includes the Fall and Spring semester.

  • A Choir: $525/year ($100 deposit, then 6 monthly payments of $70.83)

  • B Choir: $525/year ($100 deposit, then 6 monthly payments of $70.83)

  • B+ Choir: $555/year ($100 deposit, then 6 monthly payments of $75.83)

  • C Choir: $630/year ($100 deposit, then 6 monthly payments of $88.33)

** If you have more than one child in the RVCC, we offer a $20 discount per child for any child AFTER the first child.  The first child pays the full price.

  • What other expenses are there to be in the RVCC?

  • How many performances does the RVCC do each year?

All choirs participate in the annual Holiday Concert in December and the annual Spring Concert in April of each year.  Concerts are held at Shaftman Hall at the Jefferson Center.

The Training Choirs also perform at the annual School Tour to three local elementary schools in December of each year and for judges at the Music Festival in Williamsburg in April of each year.

The Concert Choir performs at Holiday Pops with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra and also for several community events each year.

 

  • Does the RVCC take any special trips?

Yes!  The Training Choirs travel to Williamsburg in April each year to participate in the Music In the Parks festival.

The Concert Choirs participates in a Children’s Choir festival or in an Honor Performance in the Spring or Summer of each year.  Past Concert Choir performances include the Southern Division ACDA convention as a featured performer in 2008 and 2014 and at the National ACDA Convention in 2015 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Festivals  have taken the Concert Choir to Chicago, New York, London, and Canada!

 

  • What kind of music does the RVCC perform?

Our focus is on music that builds beautiful singing and artistic music skills.  Although we emphasize classical music, we also sing, Holiday Music, folk songs, Patriotic songs, music from other countries and one featured Broadway medley at each concert.

 

  • Which choir will I be in? A, B, B+, or C?

Ms. Davidson places all newly auditioning choristers in a specific choir based on age and ability.

 

  • I’ve completed 1 year in the RVCC – which choir will I be in next year?

Choristers in the A Choir automatically move up the B Choir the following year.  Choristers in the B Choir automatically move up to the B+ Choir in the following year.  Choristers in the B+ Choir, remain in the B+ Choir until they are ready to audition for the Concert Choir.  Choristers in the C Choir stay through their senior year, graduating from High School.

 

  • Where are auditions held?

Bethel Baptist Church in Salem, Va. (1601 S COLORADO ST, SALEM, VA)

Location may be different if audition is made by appointment after the main audition time.

 

  • How much time should I allow for my audition (including parking, check-in, waiting, and the audition)?

Please allow about 1 hour for your audition.

 

  • When do I find out if I’ve been accepted into the choir?

You’ll receive a letter in the mail approximately 1-2 weeks after your audition in May. For Mid-Semester auditions in December or Summer Auditions you will find out in 1-2 days so we can get you quickly placed into your choir!

 

  • When do rehearsals start?

Rehearsals for the new choir year usually begin the last Monday in August. Rehearsals resume for the second semester the first or second Monday in January.

 

  • When are auditions?

Auditions are regularly held in May each year. We also offer Mid-Semester auditions in December, Summer Auditions, and auditions available throughout the year by appointment with director, Mrs. Davidson

 

  • What if I miss the annual newcomer audition date?

If you’ve missed the newcomer audition date, an audition may be able to be scheduled by appointment using this audition contact form, or by contacting the Director, Ms. Davidson, at 540-676-7265 or kimdavidson@childrenschoir.com.

 

  • Can a chorister start choir at the beginning of the January semester?

The best time to start in the RVCC is at the beginning of the school year when our first semester begins. However, if you are interested in joining mid-semester we would be happy to have you! We offer mid-semester auditions in December each year.
