Hello RVCC Patrons and Alumni,

You are dear and wonderful people! I love hearing from you and appreciate the notes and emails I receive to stay connected with you. Being a part of your life path means so much to me.

I have been bragging about you all year! Your generous donations last year for our annual fundraiser were the perfect amount to keep us afloat as we work to rebuild after the pandemic. I think we “win” when it comes to having the best alumni families and patrons! Thank you so much for your generous giving.

Would you be able to support us this year in the same amount that you did last year?

Your donations are the reason we are still singing today! Every bit makes a BIG impact in the lives of these children and the community!

While you’re thinking about that, let me share with you about two noteworthy foundational aspects we have been working on in the RVCC this past year:

  1. A Strategic Plan. Our RVCC board is working with a non-profit administrative specialist to become a high functioning board to ensure the continuation of the choir for years to come. It’s a lot of detailed work in many areas, including a Succession Plan.

  2. A Succession Plan? What? You mean I can’t do this forever? I turned 65 this year and have started thinking about plans for retirement and a succession plan to find a new director in the near future. My plan is to direct the choir for 3-5 more years. It will be hard for me to leave this work that I love, but it’s important to make plans for the continuation of the choir for many new generations of young singers to come. For now, I will treasure each and every moment working with these young singers.

Through the Strategic Planning and Succession Planning, the goal is to ensure that the RVCC is on a firm footing towards the future by:

  • Increasing our enrollment back to pre-pandemic size with new recruitment efforts and a more comprehensive scholarship program.

  • Securing long term financial stability through grants, community partnerships, a sustainable business model, and resource development plans.

  • A search for a new “Ms. D” and supporting staff. (In my heart, I’m hoping that both the new Artistic Director and Operations Manager will be RVCC alumni).

This is my 37th year directing this beloved choir. I feel so blessed to do such meaningful work. With all my heart, I want there to be another 37+ more years of the RVCC bringing choral artistry to children, bringing beautiful music to our community, and teaching children not only music skills but also teamwork, character growth, and that wonderful feeling of knowing that you’re part of something very special. When you sing in the RVCC you become family!

We’re working on a very trimmed budget for the RVCC and making it work wonderfully! We save money and cut costs wherever we can. We’re singing songs from our library, relying on social media for marketing, finding special funding for instrumentalists, using low-cost performance venues for concerts, and engaging our choir families in new fundraisers to help as well. We’re slowly building up our enrollment to 148 this year, up from 127 last year! (pre-pandemic size was 250 and we’re going to get there!)

Please consider a gift this year that matches what you so generously gave last year, or more if you can. You can donate online through our fundraiser page here or mail a check to: Roanoke Valley Children's Choir, 718 Joan Circle, Salem, VA 24153.

I’m smiling thinking of you and sending my very best wishes for good health, loving family and friends, and some great singing!!

Ms. D

Help us continue to share music with children in our community! Your donation to the RVCC helps our program stay strong and can help to change a child’s life through music, teamwork, and friendships.

We believe that we are teaching so much more than just music! We are growing young leaders in our community, building character, and teaching life skills that can truly make a difference in each and every child. Our mission is to reach as many young singers as possible and spread the joy of music throughout our community. We need your help!

As our program expands to reach more children, there is a growing and immediate need for scholarship funds to allow more children to join the RVCC and continue to sing with us. Your support of any amount can help to also offset our operating costs such as purchasing music, concert production expenses, office supplies, staff salaries, school buses, advertising, printing— and much more.

Thank you for your support and for being part of the RVCC Family!
